EXPECTED ARRIVALS, Kennedy, from Hokitika. Murray, from Nelson. TESSELS IK POBT. Ketches —Mary, Constant. Schooners —Streamlet, Q\ieen of the Isles, Mavis 1 . Steamers —Lioness, Wallabi. The Jolm Penn reports the Hokitika bar as impassable. She was unable to enter, and had to be tendered by the little Yarra. As a contrast to this very unsatisfactory state of affairs, we may state that Captain Leech, the harbor-masterof this port, sounded our bar yesterday at high water, and found the least 'depth of water to be fourteen feet. The screw steamer Keera has been stripped, and she was on Saturday handed over to Messrs Kincaid, M'Queen and Co., of the Vulcan Foundry, Great King-street, who have contracted to lengthen her 30ft. She is now l2oft or 125 ft long. The addition is to be made nearly amidships ; and the carrying capacity of this favorite boat will thus be increased by about, 200 tons. The work is the ~ a most important of its kind that has yet been t undertaken in New Zealand, and its progress is sure to be watched with much interest. At present, we believe it has not been decided whether the Keera shall be raised alongside the Pelichet Bay jetty, or whether it shall be sought to place her in the new floating dock, •which is to be launched this week, at Port Chalmers ; but the work of lengthening has to be completed in three months.— Olago jDailj/ Times. We {Westland Ohservcr) understand from the agent, Mr Greer, that it has been definitely arranged that the favorite p.s. Bruce, shall once more visit Westland waters. We shall hail the arrival of our old friend with pleasure, and sincerely trust that she may again find profitable employment in her favorite quarters.
