To-night is to bo a grand field night at Emanuel's gymnasium, at the Little Grey Hotel in Gladstone street. There are now provided foils, sioglestieks, boxing gloves, horizontal and jumping bars, trapeze, and in fact every appliance that should be found in a well conducted establishment of the kind, more than that Mr Emanuel has engaged the services of a thoroughly qualified tutor, who will put the membei'3 through all the exercises that they are desirous of practising, and this alone is a matter of no slight moment. There cannot be a doubt that the institution is deserving of hearty patronage, and there are we should think an abundance of young men who will only too gladly embrace the opportunities of health giving exercise thus afforded Mr Emanuel has spared neither pains nor expense to fit the gymnasium up properly and supply it with every necessary. We have no doubt that his enterprise will be rewarded as it deserves to be, by a full subscription list.

At the Warden's Court yesterday, the case of Luke and party v. Nicholls Perry and party, was resumed, and the two legal gentlemen engaged, Messrs Pitt and Tyler, addressed the Court on behalf of their respective clients. The Warden reserved his decision till this day.

The Criminal sittings of the District Court will commence this morning, before his Honor Judge Clarke. A very distinct shock of earthquake was felt yesterday moruing, a little after 10 o'clock, in "Westport, but it was too slight to either occasion alarm or damage. At Lyttelton on Saturday last, a severe shock was felt, and the effect on the harbour was extraordinary the sea receding for a length of two miles, and after two or three minutes returning in a perfect wall?, of water, over twenty feet in height. Great damage was done to the shipping, but we have no partciulars to hand.
