THE KYNNERSLEY ENQUIRY.
The Commissioners appointed for the Kynnersley enquiry arrived at Charleston on Thursday, and sat in the Court house the same afternoon. Several gentlemen—Messrs Home, M.P.C., Henderson, and Drury, being amongst the number, gave evidence as to what they knew of the occurrences at Addison's Flat, or the reasons for the petition being signed. The same evening a public meeting was held at the Casino for the purpose of expressing sympathy, and approval of the course of action pursued by Mr Kynnersley. Although only a few minutes notice was given by the bellman the room was crowded, the chair being taken by Mr Home, M.P.C. The following resolutions were unanimously carried, and three cheers were given for Mr Kynnersley. Moved by Mr D. Henderson, seconded by Mr Taylor—" That it is the opinion of this meeting, that the line of conduct pursued by Mr Commissioner Kynnersley was both wise and politic during the disturbances that took place at Addison's Plat in April last, and deserves the commendation of the public. Moved by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Cruse,—" That the petition emanating from Westport, and sent to Charleston for signatures was never laid before a public meeting in this town, and had such been the case this meeting is satisfied that it would neither have received the approbation, or signatures of the residents of Charleston.
Moved by Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Behan, —" That this meeting desires to express their sympathy with Mr Commissioner Kynnersley for the vexatious annoyance he has been put to through the wise and faithful discharge of his duties at Addison's Flat."
