Challenge left Hokitika at 12 noon of the 20th, for the purpose of towing in that long delayed craft, the Nightingale. She steamed easily up the coast to her anchorage outside, arriving off the port at about 9.3D p.m. same clay. At break of day sighted the Nightingale to the southward of the Steeples. Took her in tow, and brought her alongside the upperjetty, crossing the bar about 10 a.m. yesterday. The John Penn stemmed in to Hokitika on Monday morning, the bar there being in a practicable condition with about nine feet of water. The Sarah and Mnry, with cargo from Melbourne, passed into Hokitika port, Monday morning's tide, the 20th.
