Mr MTntosh, of Nelson, who had been chosen as a sub-committee man, was present and expressed his and Mr Bentley's willingness to act, an 1 they would do all in their power to forward he interests of the Hospital.
The first business was a reconsideration of the resolution of the Committee as to all voting being by ballot. After a somewhat warm discussion, on the motion of Dr Giles, seconded by Dr Cotterell the resolution was rescinded, and open voting thereby substituted. Messrs Field and Harris declined to vote.
Mr O'Conor moved and Mr Munson seconded a resolution, that in future all subscribers be entitled to attend the meetings of the Committee. This was lost, only Mr Smyth with the mover and seconder voting for it. The hon. treasurer reported that he had received all the monies from the Provisional Committee, and they hal handed over ten and sixpence that did not appear on any list, but they had iu,their possession. Tenders for printing 250 books of rules with names of subscribers, were received as follows : —From Reid and Curie—Ss per page, long primer; list of names in brevier, 15s double column, 10s single column. From Munson and Tyrrell—7s 6d per long primer; 10s per page list of names in brevier.
After some explanation the tender of Munson and Tyrrell was accepted. Dr Giles then gave in a report from the visiting committee, and stated that they had taken over the hospital into their charge. They had authorised the purchase of some necessary articles, but asked the committee to sanction farther purchases. He gave some other details, and the requisite authority was given. Dr G-iles further added that Mr Lowe had surveyed a site for the hospital between the Catholic Church and Mr Kynnersley's house, and a plan of the same was laid on the table. There were five patients in the hospital, and one had been admitted and one discharged that day. In reply to Mr O'Conor, Mr Harris said that none of the patients now in the hospital were paying, though one now receiving relief was fully able to pay. He had been admitted prior to the Committee taking it over. Some small accounts were passed by the Committee at the request of the 'hon. sec. and hon. treasurer.
. Mr Munro asked permission to enr force a judgment of £3 3s that had t -been given in the Magistrate's Court > and handed over by the plaintiff, but . not paid in by the defendant. This was . agreed to. . Mr Harris moved that a building • Committee consisting of Drs Giles, Thorpe, Cotterell, and Mr Bailie be ap- • pointed to take steps for obtaining . plans for a new hospital at a cost not ; to exceed £SOO. Mr Lowe, who was , a professional architoct, had kindly promised to give the plans. Mr Munro seconded the resolution. Mr O'Conor moved as an amend- • ment that a premium of £5 be paid for the best plan, and that plans be called for, the cost not to exceed £4OO. Mr M'Parland seconded the amendment. The amendment was carried. Subsepuently a subcommittee consisting of Drs Giles, Cotterell, Messrs M'Parland and O'Conor were appointed to give effect to the above resolution. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Bailie, Pield, Powell, and Smyth were appointed to thoroughly canvass Westport, in consequence of extra funds being required for building purposes, and another committee viz. Messrs O'Conor, Bailie, Smyth, Powell, and Harris were chosen to make arrangements for sub-committees in Addison's and the Caledonian. This was all the business transacted, and the committee then adjourned.
