RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. CHARLESTON.
(Before Chas. Broad, Esq., R.M.) Monday, Gth July, 186 S.
J. S. Johnston was charged hy the Police with being of unsound mind. Constable Paul, who arrested him, gave evidence as to seeing Johnston walking about the streets without shoes and talking in a way which induced witness to consider him insane.
Dr Dakers said the defendant had bcm recently treated in the hospital for delirium tremens, and was now suffering horn dementia; lie recommended his temporary confinement. Tiemanded for seven days. James M'Auley was found guilty of being drunk and disorderly and interfering with the police, and ordered to pay a fine of £5, £3 of which was to go to the constables whose clothes the prisoner had torn.
The healing of a summons against Chas. Weitzell, publican, was adjourned to Wednesday in consequence of its having been wrongly served. Marshall v. Emma Thatcher—Claim, £8 15s 5d for Roods supplied. Judgment for plaintiff by default. Forsyth and Masters v. Pat TTanney and party—Claim, £l2 5s lOd, adjourned at defendant's request to Wednesday.
Goldstucker v. Anderson—Postponed till Monday next in consequence of the Magistrate having received a telegram from Dunedin that J. Anderson had forwarded a statutory declaration.
