The p.s, Charles Edward arrived ofl" the bar yesterday morning, but anchored till 1 p.m., when she came up to the wharf. She called at Motueka on her way, and left again this morning at 3 o'clock. On coming up the river the police flag was flying, and Detective Lambert boarded licr at once and other police assistance was at hand if required. It turned out, however, that all that was the matter was the apprehension of a man named Hegarty, who not only could not pay his fare but used very bad language to Captain Scott on .its being demanded. He was sent away in he charge of Detective Lambert, and will, we presume, be brought up this morning. The Kennedy and Bruce, from Nelson and Hokitika, should be in port this morning.
