SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.

PORT OF WESTPORT. HIGH WATER. This Day ... 6.22 a.m., 6.4G p.m. ARRIVALS. May IG—Waipara, s.s., Bascand, from Mokihinui. Boauehamp and Co., agents, John l'enn, s.s., Carey, from Greymouth. J. KiVwaii, agent. Nelson, p.s.,Dillon, from Hokitika N.Edwards and Co., agents. May IV —Bruce, p.s., Kerley, from Hokitika. SAILED. May 10 —Waipara, s.s., Bascand, for the south John Penn, s.s., Carey, for Nelson. Nelson, p.s., Dillon, for Nelson. EXPECTED ARRIVALS. Northern Light, from Melbourne. Florence, from Melbourne. Mary, from Melbourne. Southland, from Dunedin. Wallabi, from Wanganui. Kennedy, from Nelson. VESSELS IN POET. Ketches —Mary, Young America, Sea Breeze, Constant. Schooner —Louisa. St eemcr —Bruce. On Saturday, the p.s. Nelson and s.s. John Penn arrived from the south, and started away in the afternoon. A good race was anticipated, and some tolerably heavy betting took place on the result. It was generally admitted that the Penn was the faster boat, and the wagers therefore were generally laid as to the difference of time of arrival at their destination. The Nelson, we may remark, looks none the worse for her stay ashore. The s.s. Waipara sailed for the south on Saturday, and may be expected back tomorrow. The Hokitika bar has not in any way improved since last advices, and the channel now is little more than the width of a steamer. As may be supposed, considerable care has to be exercised in entering or coming out, and only vessels of light draught can manage either.
