CHARLESTON.
ARRIVED. May 9—Fancy, schooner, from Christchurch. May 10-Constant, ketch, from Westport. Waipara, steamer, from Westport. SAILED. May 10—Waipara, steamer, for Grey and Hokitika, VESSELS IN POET. Schooner—Fancy. Ketch—Constant. IMPOETS. Per Fancy—l 96 bags oats, 125 bags bran, 22 bales chaff, Kennedy Bros. The steamer Waipara ran in, discharged a quantity of horse-feed shipped on Government account, and went out again the same tide. The Constant has brought a cargo of flour consigned to the principal bakers. The Fancy made a fair passage of 14 days from Ohristchurch, in spite of a heavy gale "of wind she experienced in Cook's Straits. She had discharged cargo and was all ready to take her departure again on Sunday, but was prevented by the incoming of the Waipara, who, as usual, lay right in the channel, with a warp out on each side, and effectually barring the passage. It appears, singularly enough, that this is the second or third time a delay from the same cause has happened to the Fancy, and the mate, not unnaturally complains of the enforced delay, seeing it is impossible to calculate the ruinous consequences which may follow from such a detention. If the matter was represented to the harbormaster we should think he would see fair play and justice done as between vessel and vessel in cases of this sort.
