Mr Johnstone made an application for the release of a debtor named Charles Curtis, and read a document purporting to be an Order from the Insolvent Court at Westport to Mr "Wits towski, the judgment creditor, to pay into court the proceeds ©f such judgment; The Magistrate said he had no power to liberate the prisoner, it rested with the officer of the Court, according to the 97 section of the Bankrupt Act. Mr Johnston said he had applied to Mr Lightband J.P. and now to his Worship, for the body of the above named debtor, dead or alive, without success, and he should hold the Magistrate liable, The Magistrate said the proper course was to apply to the G-aoler, who would be bound to liberate the prisoner, if the latter produced a protection order. Neale v. Berry. —Summons enlarged to the sth. inst. BucMand v. Stochnan. —Claim, £lB 18s. 6d. Judgment for plaintiff by default. M'Olukee v. WLaren. —Claim £5 5s for three weeks board and lodging. Defendant denied the debt, and brought forward a witness, who confirmed to some extent the statement that the amount had been paid. Judgment for defendant. Webster v. Speer. —Judgment confessed for £23. 12s. Gd. Same v. Speer and Clarke. —Claim £7. 18s. Gd. There was a set off of £6. Judgment for £l. 18s. Gd. Jacob WeitzelFs application for a twelve o'clock license was granted.
