DEMONSTRATION AT THE CALEDONIAN.
(from a correspondent.) The great demonstration took place to-day for the purpose of showing the joy felt by the inhabitants of Caledonia for the recovery from death of the much-loved Prince Alfred. The procession, consisting of over two hundred persons, formed at 8 o'clock at the Victoria Hotel, and in the midst the royal standard and other loyal flags were displayed. The procession marched round the terrace, and after showing to the utmost their loyalty, assembled again at the Victoria Hotol, when Mr _Hume addressed the meeting; ho said that loyalty was the main spring of their actions this day, and in
the absence of a minister to read prayers, the persons present joined in singing the various psalms and hymns, concluding by singing tho National Anthem. After dinner tho procession again formed and marched round the terrace.
At ti o'clock in the evening a bonfire was lighted, and after the flare caused by this had subsided, tho company dispersed to the various places of amusement, and they evidently thought that though Few in number, they were rich in spirit and loyalty, and the prevailing feeling amongst them was that the Lord might save the Duke, and overthrow assassins and murderers.
