LOYAL DEMONSTRATION IN CHRISTCHURCH.
By Electric Tblegbaph. (From tlie TP est Coast Times). CintiSTCirußCH, March 30. There was a monster procession 'through the city, and an enormous ■gathering in Latimer-square. The Chairman of the City Council took the chair. The people were addressed by the Superintendant, the Resident Magistrate, C. C. Bowen, Esq., Mr Reeves, the Speaker, Mr Tailored, Mr R. 11. Rhodes, the Provincial Treasurer, Mr Montgomery, the Hon. J, Hall, and Mr Olliver. The enthusiam was unbounded. The following additional telegram received by Mr Bonar from the Hon. John Hall, has heen obligingly placed at our disposal by the former gentleman. " An open air meeting was held this afternoon in Latimer-square, Christchurch. Acout 5000 persons present. Most enthusiastic. Among other resolutions, the following was passed - —' That this meeting cordially approves of the action taken by the General Govarnmcnt for *he preservation of the poaco of the
colony, and desires to record its lug appreciation of 'the spirited manner ii which the loyal inhabitants of Westland have supported the authority o: the law.' "
