MR DONNE AND THE ADDISONIANS.
(To the Editor of the Westport Times and Charleston Argus?) Dear Sir, —la your issue of this morning appears a report of Mr Donne's meeting at Addison's Flat, the report is evidently written by Donne himself, and is a long way from being correct, the truth is Mr Donne has no show amongst us here, who dislike the man, and his politics, and the meeting referred to must have convinced him of this, for on being addressed by Dr. Donivan. one of the principal mouthpieces of the miners here, they fairly hooted Donne from the place. Again your correspondent says nothing of the amendment proposed by Dr Donivan to the effect " that Donne was not a fit and proper person to represent them in the Assembly," and which amendment was carried unanimously, and with great cheering. Why, may I ask, was this part of the performance left out ? In conclusion, Mr Donne may be a very great man in the eyes of the half dozen publicans residing at Brighton, but away from that locality his name is never heard. One word more —if Mr Donne thinks the electors of Addison's Flat are going to be gulled by any lawyer's clerk he is mightily mistaken. We intend voting for our local candidate who has the good of the district at heart, and who will not go into the Assembly merely to shake hands with " Sir David Monro the great authority," he does not tell us on what, but I suppose he means —on the cure of scabby sheep. I am, dear sir, yours, An Elector of Addison's Flat. March 28th, 1868. [We prefaced the repot referred to by stating that we had doubts of its correctness, and were quite prepared for the receipt of a letter throwing discredit on i t.]ED. W.T.SfO.A.
