CALEDONIAN TRACK.
(To the Editor of the Westport Times and Charleston Argus.) Sir,—Will you lend the aid of your journal, to call the attention of the powers that be, to the diabolical state of the track leading to the Poverty and Caledonian Terracea. Everything that can be done in the way of cautioning men of the miseries they will have to endure in Queensland should be done ; but practice is better than precept, and I venture to say that if the authorities were to spend a little money in making a track passable, it would be the means of opening up more of the back country, which under the present circumstances it is almost impossible to do, especially by men with limited capital. A good track would cause provisions to be sold at Buller prices, ground would be worked that at present will not pay, men could get freely to the town without making a toil of it. There are men that have not been to the town for months, simply because they do not like to face the difficulties of the road. A good road was made to Addison's long before they had the show of gold that has been brought from the Caledonian. But we are a very quiet, non-talkative set, and quite contented to let things take their course—but it is high time that those gentlemen in ' Sleepy Hollow" were >woke up, and told that there were other places besides Nelson city requiring a little money, and that they must not spend all the ready cash on elaborate waterworks, &c. Hoping that you will do the best with this rambling letter that you can, and take the -will for the deed. I am, &c,, Quagmire. Caledonian Terrace, March 24, 1868.
