GREYMOUTH ANNUAL RACES.
THIED DAT. The third day's racing, which had been postponed from Thursday, on account of the bad weather, came off on Saturday. There was a fair attendance of spectators, considering the unfavorable condition of the road. The following events came off:— Handicap Eiat Eace, for 40 sovs ; post entry ; entrance, 4 sovs. Mr Day,s c. m. Policy, list... ... 1 Mr Harrison's br. g. Kohler, lOst
Three horses started ; Mocking Bird and the two above mentioned, but for an accident which happened to Mocking Bird it is more than probable that she would have won the race, as she had collared Policy when she fell. Coiunthian Cup Hurdle Eace, of 50 sovs, gentleman riders ; welter weight for age; two miles; entrance, 5 sovs. Mr Dyson's b. g. Brown Stout 1 Mr M'Loughlin's br. m. Maori Girl
'Centurion ran third. Brown Stout *won the race by sheer steady riding' • and-the judgment displayed by his 'rider, Capt. Spiller. Maori Girl ought to have won the race, as she was leading all the way, and was beaten in the •flat running at the finish. 'Booth Holdees Selling Race, of -25 sovs, one mile; heats; entrance : 3 sovs. -Mr D Cameron's cm. Mocking Bird Pour horses-started ; EedEose priced £4O; Waimea at £4O; Kholer at £6O Mocking Bird was entered not to be i sold, and had to carry extra weight. The first heat -was an exciting race 'between Kohler and Mocking 'Bird ■ and was won by Kohler by half ailength. In the second heat Mocking Bird won by a length, and won<the last heat in i a canter. A Maori race for 5 sovs, concluded 'the sport. The meeting altogether has 'been a successful one.
