The screw-steamer Waipara left Hokitika at 6..*50 a.m. on the 20th inst., and arrived at Fox's at 5.45 p.m., after a very rough and stormy passage ; discharged cargo and passengers. Left for Westport same tide, and came to her moorings in the river at 0' a.m. on Saturday. By her we hare received Hokitika files to the 20th inst. The paddle-steamer Bruce arrived from Hokitika and Brighton on Saturday with about twenty passengers for this port. She left Hokitika on Saturday morning, landed goods and dassengers at Brighton on her upward passage. She left for Greyiuouth and Hokitika at 10 a.m. yesterday morning. The Lioness cleared at the Customs on Saturday for Greymoutli and Brighton. She will tow the Maid of Erin, and will probably sail to-day. The schooner Maid of Erin is expected to leave for Melbourne to-day, she would have left by yesterday morning's tide, but the landing of the steam engine for Charleston was not effected in time for her departure. She has only two or three passengers for Melbourne or other ports. The screw-steamer Murray arrived in port yesterday evening at 8 o'clock. She left Greymoutli at 9 a.m. the same day. She reports having to encounter a very heavy sea on the bar, and that the Despatch lost one of her boats off the deck yesterday morning whilst crossing. The Mary Stuart, from Melbourne, was off the Grey bar. The Susannah Booth, with cattle for this port, is reported as having put into Nelson. The John Penn has arrived at Nelson, and may be expected here shortly. The Murray brings some saloon and steerage passengers, and has on board two of Mr Day's race horses, viz., Lord Lyons and Policy, and Mr Paul's Fenian. She "also has on board the skill' in which Hiekey beat Green for the championship, which is the property of Mr J. Wilkie, of Nelson, whose boating proclivities are well known. The steamer Albion, in charge of Captain Kidney, has by this time probably left Hokitika for Sydney. The West Coast Times says : " Wc understand that a considerable freight •of gold dust has been secured for her. The Albion now belongs to Mr Hoyt (late of Cobb and Co.) and Captain M'Kinnon, at Dunedin. From Sydney she proceeds to Japan. Several well-known Dunedenites accompany her, ineluding Mr and Mrs Kennedy. Mr Parry, Mr Davie( late of M'Laundress, Hepburn and Co), Mr Bird, formerly proprietor of the Provincial J hotel, and Mr G. Hoyt.
