Gold EscoET.-The usual fortnightly gold escort arrived in town yesterday, but the amount of gold did not transpire, we believe however that it is fully up to the average. Additons Flat.—We are informed by several people who have come from Addison's this week, that business matters are improving there, and that confidence in business is in a great measure restored. The track is in a frightful state, and we know several gentlemen who prefer walking to riding so difficult is it to get over the ground on horseback. Mining News.—The news from the Caledonian Lead is much as usual, and the quality of the ground is still good. Business matters are quiet , but as several new houses have been opened with great success, we must expect a short lull in the storm.—At Mokihinui, business is still very dull, and the town presents a wretchedly dull appearance. A small parcel of gold has been brought down by one of the storekeepers ; but nothing has been struck at present to redeem the prestige of this goldfield. Ik. Smapee's Sale.—The sale of groceries, ironmongery, &., will be continued to-day. Yesterday the attendance was pretty good, and fair prices were realised. As this is an opportunity not often to be met with, we advise purchasers to secure bargains before it is too late to do so. Bbowk's Store.—We were struck on passing Mr Brown 4 s store last night by the improvements manifested in the general appearance of the front of the establishment. A new and larger window has replaced the small sash hitherto in use, and the shop is tastefully set out with all manners of goods, groceries, ironmongery, wines, spirits, &c. &e, We are assured that cheapness as well as quality are combined at this establishment. As economy is tho order of the day, we would advise careful housewives to visit this emporium
