EXPORTS. Per Nelson—ll bags coke, N. Edwards and •■Co. The paddle-steamer Nelson left yesterday for Nelson with her original cargo from Hokitika on board. The screw-steamer Waipara, with a small shipment of goods from this port, was despatched to Mokihinui yesterday. The Kennedy left Nelson at 12.30 p.m. on Thursday. Experienced strong head winds all the passage down, and crossed the bar at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. She left for Greymouth and Hokitika at 3 o'clock this morning. _♦ STEERING AND SAILING RULES. To prevent as far as possible collisions at sea, and to put masters of vessels in mind of " the rules of the road," the following aids to memory have been published by the AssistantSecretary to the Board of Trade, London : TWO STEAMSHirS MEETING. Meeting steamers, do not dread When you see three lights ahead— Port your helm and show your red. TWO STEAMSHIPS PASSING. Green to Green, or Red to Red— Perfect safety—Go ahead ! TWO STEAMSHIPS CROSSING. Tf to your starboard Red appjar, It is your duty to keep clear ; To act as judgment, says is proper— To port, or starboard—back, or stop hor ; But when upon your port is seen A steamer's starboard light of Green, There's not so much for you to do. The Green light must keep clear of you. GENERAL CAUTION, Both in safety and in doubt, Always keep a good look-out; In danger, with no room to turn, Ease her! stop her ! go astern !
