Mary Ami, from Melbourne. Mary Camming, from Melbourne. Maid of Erin, from Melbourne. Wangnnui, from Wanganui. Murray, from Nelson, VESSELS IN I'OUT. Schooners —Ada, Mary. Steamers—Kennedy, Nelson. The paddlo-steamer Nelson, Messrs Nath. Edwards and Co., agents, arrived"in port last niglit at 7 o'clock. She left Nelson at 8.1-5 p.m, on Saturday, and experienced fine weather and smooth sea on her passage down. She ■brings a general cargo, and about ten passengers for this port. The screw-steamer Kennedy arrived in port yesterday morning. She left the Buller on Thursday at 7 p.m. with the schooner Kambler in tow; got to Fox's at 10 p.m. ; steamed over the Groy bar at 6 a.m. on Friday ; left at 7 p.m. for Ilokitika, at which port she arrived at 9 p.m., discharged passengers and ■cargo, and loft again at 7 p.m. on Saturday ; got to Fox's at 1.30 a.m. on Sunday morning, and landed two tons of cargo and four passengers ; left Brighton at 3.30, and crossed the Buller bar at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning. She brings a small cargo and about six passengers for the Buller and seven for Nelson.
The cutter Volunteer, which was outside the bar on Saturday, has gone on to Fox's. The Rambler schooner, towed out by the Kennedy on Thursday, was at anchor off our bar on Saturday night, and yesterday morning was still in sight; the wind yesterday will propubly enable; her to reach Greymouth. A large steamer passed the port on Saturday without either signalling or stopping. She went south, and was supposed to be the Gothenburg.
New Steamer fou the New Zealand Trade.—The Argus, of the 22nd ultimo, says :—" A new steamship, the John Penn, was yesterday telegraphed from Capo Otway, under canvas and steam, and making for Ilohson's Bay. She lias been built by the well-known linn the name of whose senior partner she bears, and she is intended for Mr Johnson, of Mewburn-park, who w.l! e np'oy her in the fat cattle trade on the coast of Neiv Zealand. Her head quarters there will be Nelson, near which Mr Johnson has secured very extensive paddocks. To these 'green pastures' the cattle will be conveyed from this colony, and from New South Wales and Queensland, byj Mr Johnson's sailing ships, and the John Fcnn will afterwards carry them to the coast markets for the supply of the diggers. The John Penn is a vessel of some 400 tons register, specially constructed for the trade in which she is to he employed, and her arrival will be a source of pleasure to the many friends of her spirited owner."
