WESTPORT QUARTZ-MINING CO., (LIMITED.)

The meeting of the shareholders at the Wellington Hotel last evening being insufficient to form a quorum, the manager begs to make a short statement for the benefit of the shareholders, viz.— The time for which the Company is protected expires on 23rd February. The adjoining claim (Martin's) is crushing, and the result as far as can be ascertained for the short time since the machine commenced working is highly satisfactory. The interest of the Westport Quartz Company in ground of such known richness is in consequence considerably enhanced, and the workings on the ground are of a valuable nature, 450 feet of tunnelling having been completed. The only obstacle to the working being continued is the want of funds, and the object of the meeting was to raise money to carry on. The best plan would be to issue scrip, which no doubt would find a ready sale in the market, and to do this effectually, a solicitor would be necessary, the manager therefere hopes that all shareholders who take any interest in the work being continued, will take some steps before Saturday first, to enable some decided measures to be adopted—in the meantime he will try to obtain a further protection to enable the necessary information to be prepared. The statement of receipts and disbui'sements is as follows:

The amount of capital due on calls is =£sl 10s. The amount of wages clue the working shareholders, up to the time of their knocking off work, prior to the claim being protected, is £26 17s 6d. In conclusion, he would beg the parties interested to meet in force without delay, and make some arrangements for the men to recommence working on Monday next. Henet Weight, Manager pro. tern.
