RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Teid-vt, February 14. (Before Chas. Broad, Esq., R,M.) John Silke was charged under the Vagrancy Act with being an idle and •disorderly person, without visible means of support. Beid v. Brat/, for using abusive and insulting language to informant. Defendant, who partially admitted the offence, was fined twenty shillings.

Mary Healey was brought up on an information charging her with keeping a house of disorderly character, and harboring reputed thieves and persons having no visible means of support. Detective Lambert stated that he had often visited the prisoner's house and found prostitutes there, and recently a man who had been convicted.

The Magistrate said as the Act referred to the occupation of a house frequented by reputed thieves, it woula be necessary to show if this was the case in this instance; there was another Act which could, perhaps, have better met this information. Mr O'Neil who appeared for the prisoner, applied to have the information dismissed. The prisoner was discharged. There were several other informations of a similar character laid against Ziddell, Smithy Hayes, and Browlie, all of which were withdrawn. Stevens v. Stevens. —Mr Johnston, on behalf of plaintiff, applied an adjournment, which was granted to the I7th instant.

ErsTcim v. Kennedy. —This 'was a claim of £8 8s for work and labor done, against which there was a set-off filed of £7 12s Bd. Judgment for plaintiff for 15s 4d. Before the rising of the Court, Mr O'Neil applied that the prisoner Annie Curtis be admitted to bail. This was granted, herself in £SO and two sureties of £25 each.
