RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, Feb. 7. (Before J. Giles, Esq., M.D., R.M.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. David OroJcer failing to appear to answer this charge, forfeited his bail. APPLICATION FOB WAGES. John Hurst sued Mrs Savage for five weeks' wage due. The defendant was not well enough to appear, but the case was tried, as a Mr Allen defended the action for her. The plaintiff, whose claim to four weeks' wages was not disputed, claimed the fifth week in lieu of sufficient notice of dismissal. The Magistrate gave judgment for the whole amount claimed with costs. MORE MAORI LEASE DISPUTES. John Mace sued Henry Fry for two weeks' rent due. Mr Tyler appeared to watch the case on behalf of the landlord. Mr Johnson for the plaintiff. The defendant did not dispute the claim, but had refusod payment on account of being served with a notice from Mr Pitt (acting on behalf of Tommy Freeman, the Maori) warning him against paying rent to any other person, as he claimed to be entitled to the land, and was instituting legal proceedings to establish his right. As this was no defence to the claim, the Magistrate adjudged him to pay the amount and costs.
