CHARLESTON NEWS.

Our new Warden, Mr Liglitband, arrived here on Saturday by Cobb's coach from AVestport. The very meagre accommodation which Mr Dutton so long put up with 'will not 'do for Mr Liglitband, who is married

and has a family, and will, therefore, require a house. Private dwelling houses are not very numerous in Charleston, so that, we presume, if the Government do not purchase Mr Noes' cottage, which is to be sold by auction, one will have to be built. The amateur theatrical and musical entertainment in aid of the Charleston Hospital takes place this evening, and wedoubt not will be well patronised. It is the first time that amateurs have ventured upon a Charleston stage, and a wise choice seems to have been made in selecting the play "Time Tries All," which possesses the double merit of heing tolerable easy and not too long. The concert following the play will, we believe, be specially attractive, and we trust that the efforts which are so freely and unselfishly put forward will be warmly appreciated and generously rewarded by a bumper house; the funds of the hospital certainly need support at this time. The present fine weather has again brought up the subject of cricket, and we believe there is a good prospect of a club being now formed, at any rate the materials of war have been sent for, and when they come to hand the first, and most important step, will have been accomplished. The s.s. Kennedy called off the port on Sunday forenoon, and landed several passengers, amongst others, Mr James Johnston, Mr Nancarrow, and Mr Lockhart. The day was beautifully fine,so that nodifficultywasexperienced in landing.
