MR FERRIS'S EXPLANATION.
To _ the Gentlemen who Signed the Requisition.—Gentlemen,—I deem it my duty to offer you an apology for having retired from the contest after having had the honor to receive such a large and influential requisition, and at the same time giving you to understand that I would come into the field to seek the honor of representing your interests in the Provincial -Council. My reasons for withdrawing were, in the first place, private motives; secondly, I found it would not have been in my power to devote the time and attention to such a large and important district as the Buller demands, a place that, in spite of all the drawbacks it has had, is destined to become the most flourishing and important ou the West Coast. Thanking you for the honor you wished to confer on me, I am, Gentlemen, yours respectfully, "William Ferbis.
