The Southland went out of harbor yesterday, Captain Kirkpatrick having some idea that a sail which was visible in the offing might possibly be the Nightingale, which is now eoine time overdue. Outside he perceived only two schooners, one steering to the northward, and the other on a wind, go ; n* south. After steaming as far as the Steeples, he returned without seeing anything of the missing schooner.

1 h 3 Ahuriri, which left here on Thursday, •the SJih inst., arrived at Nelson on the 10th. Left again on the 11th, and reached Wanganui oi the 12th. Took on board 25 head of cattle and 300 sheep, and sailed .on Thursday morning last, at 3 a.m. Arrived at the Builer on Friday afternoon, at 3. Had strong S.W. winds, with heavy sea, all day on Thursday. Calms and suiooth sea yesterday up to the period of arrival in port. The live stock wis landed in first-rate order at the stockyard on the South Spit. The Nelson arrived yesterday evening, about five o'clock, after a favorable voyage of only twenty-five hours from Nelson. She brings an assorted cargo, and loaves to-day for th? south. The Charles Edward had arrived safely in Nelson, and is expected to be completed in a few weeks. An account of her voyage is subjoined:—" Steamer Charles Edward.—This fine little steamer, of which we have already spoken, arrived yesterday morning from Greymouth, in tow of the ? v .' lson. The efforts made to get her afloat at Grey by Mr Brown, the engineer in charge of Messrs N. Edwards and Company's works, were most successlul. Before the* boat was condemned, £I2OO was asked to get her afloat, yet in thirteen working days, saying nothing of interruptions from bad weather, the Charles Edward was afloat and ready for sea. Before she could be launched she had to be moved a distance of 1050 feet, or nearly five-eighths of a mile, over very rough and uneven ground, the total cost of which did not reach £SOO. The Charles Edward will at once be placed on the cradle, and it is expected will be put in thorough repair for an additional £SOO, when she will be one of the smartest boats on the coast, and be a valuable addition to Messrs N. Edwards and Co.'s steam fleet."
