The Murray and Wallaby, both of which were announced to sail yesterday, one for Nelson and the other for Ilokitika, were obliged, on account of the fresh that came down with the morning's tide, to take refuge in the Lagoon, «and to defer their departure indefinitely. The fresh, although, not so heavy as we had feared it might be, was sufficiently high to cause a very formidable current, and still further to threaten the solidity of the bank. In the afternoon, on the whole broad bosom of the turbid stream, there was not a single boat or vessel of any description visible, and it looked as solitary and deserted as when none but the Maori roamed along its lonely shore. It rained again heavily last night, and it seems not at all unlikely that we may have this morning a si ill higher tide than yesterday. The Beautiful Star, which appeared in the offing on Sunday, was deterred by the fresh that was pouring oiit over the bar from attempting to enter, and went out to sea again for the day. The Otago has not yet been signalled, hut is expected immediately. When she does arrive she will have to wait to take passengers and mails, as there is a large quantity of gold awaiting shipment.
