STOCK MARKET

MARTINBOROUGH FAIR. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report: —We held our annual Ewe Fair at Martinborough yesterday when an entry well up to advertised numbers was submitted to a good attendance. Bidding dragged throughout and buyers were only prepared t$ do business on low limits. Some particularly good lines were offered and prices seemed to be in buyers' favour. Vendors were not hard on reserves, and were prepared to sell if anything like reasonable prices were offered. We yarded 2500 ewes and only two lots went out unsold. Following are the prices:— Sheep: 2-th. ewes, 24/C to 24/7; 2-th. ewes, small, 20/1 to 22/; 4-tli. ewes, to 27/; 6-tli. ewes, to 25/; 4 and 5-yr. ew T es, 2;l/2 to 24/3; 5-yr. ew r es, to 23/7; s.m. ewes, 17/6 to 19/3; f.m. ewes, 12/ to 13/9. The New Zealand Loan and-Mercan-tile Agency 'Co., Ltd., report on their Martinborough sale held yesterday as follows: —-A large yarding of ewes came forward and was submitted to a fair attendance including a few buyers from the Manawatu. The quality of the sheep yarded was very ordinary and bidding at auction was sluggish, several pens being passed in at auction but we were successful in disposing of the whole yarding afterwards, with the exception of one pen of 2-ths. at prices which must be considered satisfactory. We quote: —Medium 2-th. ewes, 23/, 24/6 to 25/; 2-tli. Southdown ewes, 30/; 4-yr. ewes, a/c S. H.
