FALL ON MOUNTAINSIDE

CLIMBER KILLED. INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. Falling on a mountainside when attempting to cross a saddle above Homer Tunnel in the Hollyford Valley to-day, a young man from Dunedin was killed. * The body had not been recovered tonight and an effort Avill be made to bring it down to the headquarters camp of the Public Works Department in the Hollyford Valley to-morrow. The victim was John McLean, aged 21, Pitt Street, Dunedin. Accompanied by a companion, McLean, wlro was spending a climbing holiday in the Hollyford region, climbed the saddle above the tunnel this morning, intending to cross to Milford Sound. He had evidently climbed to a height of 6000 feet when he slipped and fell, striking his head and being killed almost instantly. It is understood he did not fall a very great distance, death being caused by head in-juries.—(P-A.)
