WEDDING
WHITCOMBE—MAGRATH
A wedding of considerable interest was solemnised at St. Matthew’s Church, Masterton on 22nd January, the bride being Miss Doris Eileen Mavis Magrath, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Magrath, Masterton, .and the bridegroom Mr Alexander William Whitcombe, only son of Mr and Mrs A, Whitcombe, Auckland. The officiating minister was Rev. E. J. Rich, with Mr Miller-Hope presiding at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who looked charming, entered the church with her father, and wore a gown of magnolia satin cut on close-fitting lines with fan-shaped pleated train. The neckline was finished with a pearl collarette and the long tight-fitting sleeves and corsage were trimmed with rows of tiny satin buttons. The embroidered veil, which was kindly lent by the bridegroom’s sister, fell from a halo .of velvet flowers. She carried a sheaf of lilies. The bride was attended by Miss Daphne Allen (chief bridesmaid), Miss Bernice Bateman (Wanganui), cousin of the bride, Miss Dulcie Allan (Masterton), and Miss Joan Torrance, niece of the bride, all of whom wore frocks of pink spotted net over pink satin made in Redingote style with wood fibre flowers at the square neckline, and silver shoes. They wore pink veils arranged with a halo of pink wood fibre flowers and carried sheafs of pink gladioli.
The bridegroom was attended by M McCluggage (Auckland) as best man and Mr Alf. Climo (Wellington) and Mr Whit. Reid (of Auckland) a.s groomsmen. Mr A. Magrath and Mr A. Torrance acted as ushers.
At the reception held after the ceremony, at the Parish Hall, Mrs Magrath received her guests wearing a frock of black with white trimmings, with black georgette coat. She was assisted by Mrs Whitcombe who wore a blue frock with hat and shoes to tone. Both carried red posies. The host of beautiful presents testified to tlxe popularity of the young c-ouple. The bride’s travelling frock was greyfawn cloque with black accessories. Mr and Mrs Whitcombe later left by motor car for the North en route to Auckland where their future home will be.
