SHOOTING TRAGEDY

PUBLICAN’S DEATH.

THAMES, Monday. A shooting tragedy occurred at Tapu, about 12 miles from Thames, on the coast, to-day, resulting in the death of Douglas McKenzie, licensee of the Royal Oak Hotel at Tapu. It is understood that McKenzie has been in the habit of shooting cats -which came about the premises, and this morning, about 8 o’clock, he took a pearifle and went out with the intention of shooting a cat in a paddock at the back of the hotel.

A short time later he was found with a bullet wound in his head. Dr. T. E. Miller was called from Thames, but McKenzie died in the Braemar Private Hospital at 11.30 a.m. —(P.A.)
