OBITUARY
MR. T. WAGG. It will be with feelings of deep regret that his many friends in the Wairarapa will learn of the death of Mr T. Wagg, of Masterton, which occurred suddenly at Levin this morning. Mr Wagg for a long period of years had been closely associated with the business and municipal life of Masterton, and was one of the best known figures and most highly respected citizens. Born at the Upper Hutt 76 years ago the late Mr Wagg commenced business in Masterton in 1890, in 1912 converting it into a motor and engineering establishment, doing a large trade in motor ears throughout the district. A man of genial disposition, thoroughly reliable in business and -whose word was his bond, the late Mr Wagg built up a sound business.
In a wide variety of spheres deceased was closely associated with the growth of Masterton. For many years he was a borough'councillor and a member of the Trust Lands Trust, doing excellent service on both these bodies. He had been a valued director of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society for many years. For about 53 years he had been a member of the Masterton Masonic Lodge No. 19, for several years, having occupied the portion of treasurer, and was only recently made an honorary life member of the lodge. As a J.P. he was looked upon as having a splendid knowledge of his duties.
Tlie late Mr Wagg leaves a widow and family of five sons (Messrs Guy, George, Masterton, William, Martinborougli, Jack, Wellington, and Leo, Napier) and one daughter (Mrs J. Kennedy, Masterton) to whom the deep sympathy of the people of Masterton will be extended in their sudden bereavement. The funeral will take place at 3.30 o’clock to-morrow afternoon, leaving the residence, Worksop Road. Members of Masterton Masonic Lodge No. 19 are requested to attend the funeral of the late Bro. T. Wagg. MRS. E. J. ALLIS. The many friends of Mrs Eliza Jane Allis will regret to learn of her death which occurred at the residence of her ' daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. IT. Handyside, Te Ore Ore Road, Masterton, this morning, after a brief illness. The deceased was born in Lincolnshire, England, 76 years ago. She came to New Zealand with her husband and 3 children forty years ago. She took up her residence in Napier after her arrival and remained there for 20 years, subsequently coming to Masterton where she has resided for the past fourteen years. Her husband predeceased her thirty years ago. The deceased was of a very bright and happy disposition and was always ready to lend a helping hand where and when required. She is survived by one son (Mr Clifford Allis, Wellington) and two daughters (Mrs M. Rickard, Napier, and Mrs H. J. Handyside, Masterton), who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The Rev. Ered Stubbs, Sydney, and Mr G. Stubbs, Napier, are brothers of the deceased and two sisters reside in England. The funeral will take place to-mor-row and will leave the residence of Mr and Mrs J. H. Handyside, Te Ore Ore Road, at 2.30 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MRS E. M. FOWLER. The death occurred 'in a private hospital in Wellington on Saturday evening of Mrs. Etheline Mary Fonder, wife of Mr. E. P. Fowler, District Land Valuer, Masterton.. The late Mrs. Fowler, who was 65 years of age, had been in 'indifferent health for some months. She was born at Pahautanui, the eldest daughter of Mrs. M. A. Teal, of Carterton and the late Mr. John Teal. Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. Fowler is’ survived by two sons of her first marriage, Messrs H. W. Fraser, Raurimu, and P. C. Fraser, Wellington; two sisters, Mesdames Charles Holland (Carterton) and Ruben Gyles, and four brothers, Messrs John Teal (Petone). Thomas and Charles Teal (Carterton) and Arthur Teal (Ahiaruhe), to all of whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended in their bereavement. The funeral will leave the residence, 52 Lincoln Road, Masterton, to-morrow at 11 a.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MR. JAMES McANULTY. A very well-known and popular resident of the Eketaliuna district in the person of Mr. James MeAnulty, of Kaiparoro, died early yesterday morning at the age of 59 years. The late Mr. MeAnulty, who had been ailing for some time, was born at Bulls, Rangitikei, and came to Eketahuna when he was eight years of age. For the past 38 years he had been farming at Kaiparoro and took a keen interest in al]* public affairs. Until comparatively recently, he was chairman of the Kaiparoro Dairy Co. He is survived by a widow, one son, James and two daughters, Mrs. H. Percy, Alfredton, and Miss Margaret MeAnulty, of Kaiparoro, to • whom will be extended The sympathy of a large number of friends.
