The Governor-General, Lord Galway, will visit Wanganui and Rangitikei districts on 21st December, when he will attend the breaking-up ceremonies and distribute prizes at several schools and colleges. He will officiate at the Wellington Diocesan School for Girls (Nga Tawa, Marton), in the morning, after his arrival from Taranaki, and in the afternoon will speak at St. George’s Preparatory School ( Wanganui J'ltefore leaving for Wellington on the night of 21st December, Lord Galway will officiate at the Wanganui Collegiate School ceremonies. It is understood that Lord Galway also intends visiting the Maori Memorial Church at Putiki. The engagement is announced of Betty, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Johnson, of Mangatainoka, to. Matthew, second son of Mr and Mrs G. Gaskin, also of Mangatainoka. Traffic Inspector Nicholson, lately of Palmerston North, has taken up his residence in Greytoivn, and willjjgork the South Wairarapa under the diction of the Main Highways Bo&rd. Mr W. A. lorns, Martinborough, has been appointed steward of the Wellington Racing Clnb to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Dr. H. A. H. Gilmer. The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, will leave Wellington tonight for the south. To-morrow he will inspect the southern section of the South Island Main Trunk construction works, returning to Christchurch . to spend the week-end there. The Minister will return on Monday night. A Christchurch telegram states that the death has occurred of the Hon. David Buddo, aged 81 years. A former member of the House of Representatives and of the Legislative Council, Mr Buddo was Minister of Internal Affairs and Acting-Minister of Lands from 1908 to 1912. He collapsed in a city office and died in an ambulance on the way to hospital. An occasion probably unique in tho history of New Zealand was the formal investiture with knighthood by his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Galway, of Sir Charles Norwood, he lay in his bed at the Bowen J||reet private hospital yesterday morning.'Sir Charles is now slowly but surely _ recovering from the effects of a serious operation, the aftermath of a motor accident last year in Canterbury. It is now announced that he is “round the corner,” but, for all that, it may be many weeks before he is out and about again.

Nissen, who has been appointed assistant chief accountant, Public Works Department. Mr G. F. Whitlock, estates clerk, Christchurch, has been appointed senior estates clerk, Masterton, in succession to Mr Moore. Mr H. C, Millar, estates clerk, Wellington, has been .appointed senior estates clerk, Wellington, in succession to Mr J. W. D. Mardon, who has been appointed second Assistant District Public Trustee, Christchurch.
High tributes to Mr C. E. Bremner, M.1.C.E., formerly of Masterton, who has resigned from the positioned!! engineer to the Geraldine CountJpCouncil after 18 years service, were made at a dinner at the Crown Hotel, Geraldine, after the monthly meeting the Council on Monday. Opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr Bremner and to present him with an illuminated address and a silver salver as a slight mark of appreciation of his services. Mr Bremner has been granted three months leave of absence, and his successor Mr J. R. A. Hawcridge, assistant engineer to the .-Southland County Council, will commence his duties in February. Mr Bremner, who replied in humorous vein, expressed his appreciation of the tributes paid to him in both a personal and professional capacity. He thought that during the period he had been with the Council that things had gone along very well. He appreciated the courtesy which he had received at the hands of the chairman and councillors, and intimated that lie would always carry recollections of his years with the County Council till he stepped over the border. It is understood that Mr Bremner will shortly visit Masterton on his way to take up his residence with his son in Hawke's Bay.
