XURF notes. Braen King is in the Auckland Cup, but after Saturday’s display he does not look a good proposition. However, under a light weight and over two miles the unexpected may happen. L. G. Morris will take a small team to Auckland, The Buzzer and Oratory being two certain to go. B. H. Morris will ride Oratory, who ran second in the Railway Handicap last year, but no rider has been engaged definitely for The Buzzer. It is probable that H. N. Wiggins will be in the saddle. Catalogue is not going to Auckland, but Mrs McDonald will take The Crooner and Sudan north. Mr E. L. Barnes, owner o’f Catalogue, has been seriously ill at Christchurch since the New Zealand Cup meeting, but he is now recovering, and Catalogue may race at the Manawatu meeting. For the Fitzherbert Handicap, of £3OO, six furlongs, at the Manawatu meeting, the following entries have been received: —Haughty Winner, Joviality, Debham, Ben Braggie, Symcony, Pakanui, Lady Ina, Impasto, Mata Hari, Bodyline, Wildflower, Mittie, Deficit, Laughing Lass. At a meeting of members of the Castlepoint Racing Club on Saturday night it was decided tjo hold the annual race meeting on the Castlepoint Beach on sth March, provided that date was approved by the Racing Conference. It was agreed to increase the stakes and to hold seven races. The club held a most successful meeting last February.
