ELECTRIC POWER
MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board: took place at Carterton to-day, the chairman, Mr A. Campbell Pearce, presiding. Also present were Messrs S. Dalgliesli, W. A. Tate, M. B. Tait, C. R. Holmes, W. Howard Booth, H. P. Hugo, R. J. King and J. W. Colquhoun. A recommendation of the Finance Committee that in order to comply with the provisions of the Local Bodies Officers’ Award, the hours of work for the employees in the Board’s offices and slirowrooms, in future be from 8.15 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday, was passed. The secretary-manager reported that the revenue return for September again disclosed a satisfactory position. For the first six months of the year the revenue gain on 1936 is £4323/11/5 and the gain on the estimate £ISBO/1/9. The turnover of the trading department shows a considerable increase compared with last year, and there is a definite indication that the profit will exceed the .estimate. Twenty-one new consumers were actually connected to the system during September and the total number of consumers is now 5500. The State Advances Corporation has indicated that it will probably be able to meet the requirements of the Board for its £25,000 loan money.
The engineer reported that a piece of bale wire thrown over the 11,000-volt line caused an interruption on the Bangitumau line at 6.10 p.m. on 24th September. The line rias in service again at 6.35 p.m.. A piece of bale wire thrown over one of the main 11,000 volt lines and cross-arm in Kent St., Carterton, made it necessary to shut down the main line feeders in the Carterton borough between 1 and 2.30 a.m. on Sunday, 12th September to effect repairs and replace the E.H.P. cr.oss-arm which was almost burnt through.
