HODGENS INCIDENT

REGARDED AS CLOSED. PALMERSTON NOfe-TH, Tuesday. A statement was made to-day by Cr. W. G. Tennent that-it was not his intention to proceed further with any contemplated proceedings against Cr. J. Hodgens, M.P., in consequence of a reference to himself contained in a telegram which Mr Hodgens forwarded to the City Council three weeks ago. Cr. Tennent . to-day said that though he considered the proper place for Cr. Hodgens to make withdrawal of the statement was at the council table, he understood from people who had attended the public meeting in the Opera House on 19th September that Cr. Hodgens there had made the necessary withdrawal. Cr. Tennent said lie now regarded the matter as closed. —(P.A.)
