MAURICEVILLE NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent). Women’s Institute. A verv pleasant afternoon was spent in the hall supper-room yesterday when the Maurieeville Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting.. After the formal business was dealt with the East ladies were left in charge for the remainder of the meeting. It was decided to make a donation to the-Health Camp. Mrs 11. Trass and Miss Mortensen were elected delegates to the Federation meeting at Pahiatua on 29th October. Mrs A. Forsberg, on behalf of the members, made a presentation to Mrs J. B. Mac Lean, who has been secretary since the formation of the Institute. The competitions were judged by Mrs McGovern and Mrs Henderson of the Solway-Manaia Institute and resulted as follows: —Best worked cushion, Miss J. Larsen 1, Mrs G. Gregory 2. Cocoanut ice: Miss M. Larsen 1, Mrs I. D. Cameron 2. Mystery cake: Miss N. Freeman. In the mystery bag competition seven ladies tied for first place. Much amusement was caused in character reading by Mrs Ivilgour of Masterton. A vote ,of thanks was passed to the visitors and a pleasant afternoon concluded with afternoon tea. #** . * FaxeweU Afternoon. Many friends foregathered at the home of Mr and'Mrs Hartley Myers to bid farewell to Mrs Robt. Cameron, who has left to reside in Masterton. A delightful afternoon was spent with musical items and competitions. Afternoon tea was served amid artistic decorations of blue and gold. On behalf of the assembly, Mrs' Childs, in a happy little speech, presented Mrs Cameron with a beautiful crystal reading lamp. Mr Myers also expressed the regret of all at the departure of Mrs Cameron. The afternoon concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. **- * < * Croquet. A meeting of the Maurieeville Croquet Club will be held in the hall sup-per-room on Thursday afternoon. As the season is fast approaching it is hoped there will be a large attendance of those interested as well as members. * * * * Golf. During the week-end a match was played between teams of the Makarewa and Forest Downs golf clubs. An even tussle ended in victory for the Forest Downs Club, thus evening the score when Maka.rewa were victorious in the first encounter. . The following are the detailed results, Makarewa players being mentioned first in each case:— Mrs Weston and Mrs F. Tildesley, all square; Mrs Heckler lost to Miss E. Heckler; Miss J. Bennett lost to Miss M. Tildesley; Miss D. Brunton beat Miss J. Kerr. C. R. Judd lost to R. B. Cameron; P. Neilsen and W. Cheetham, all square; Ri Weston lost to D. Brunton; J. MacDonald beat F. Tildesley; W. Heckler lost to E. Cheetham; D. Bennett lost to R. A. Cameron; A. Weston lost to B. Kerr; K. Field lost to H. Mallabar; E. Rolls lost to G. Frederickson.
