AUCKLAND’S NUDE STATUE
ROUNDLY CONDEMNED.
“DISGUSTING SIGHT.”
CARTERTON, This Day.
Rev. W. J. Elliott, of Auckland, expresident of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, who is now visiting Carterton, having his attention drawn, to' the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations’ attitude in regard to the Auckland nude statue, said: “I think the statue is a disgusting sight and a degenerate travesty upon Grecian athletic art. It is pitiable to see the altitude of inoffensive suavity assumed towards it by the Council of Christian Congregations. Surely the church is in a tepid mood and is drawing the silken' cord of a false peace over every great conviction and duty.”
