A cable message from Hollywood advises the death of Irving Thalberg, from lobular pneumonia, after a week’s illness. A cable message advises that Miss - Maureen O’Sullivan, actress, and John Farrow, film writer, were married at Santa Monica, California, on Saturday. Miss Rae Dohnt, who has been on the nursing staff of the Glenwood private hospital, Masterton, for the past two-and-a-half years, has received notice of her appointment on the staff of the Palmerston North Public Hospital. The Auckland nominees for the Rhodes Scholarships to be awarded in New Zealand this year were soleeted by the Professorial Board of thjAmckland University College as follows: George Lawrence. Hogben and George Clifford James Dalton. Mr W. H. Jolliffe, of Masterton/-’: who has been State Forest Officer the Wairarapa district for the past sh* years, has sent in his resignation. Mr | Jolliffe, who intends to enter into business on his own account, expects to leave Masterton at the beginning of next month. He will reside at Kaitoke. Notice of his desire to retire from the Chair of English Language and Literature at- Victoria University College, Wellington, has been given by Professor Hugh MacKenzie, M.A. (St. Andrew’s), whose association with the college dates back to 1899, the year it opened. At the annual meeting of the Old Boys, Cricket Club last night, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr H. B. Tomlinson; president, Mr E. S.
