ROAD SAFETY COUNCIL
PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to-night announced that following the recent road safety conference, held in Wellington, he had selected the personnel of the proposed Road Safety Council as follows: Messrs W. A. O’Callaghan, North Island Motor Union; J. S. Hawkes, South Island Motor Union; C. J. Talbot, counties; M. F. Luckie, municipalities; J. F. Cousins, New Zealand Motor Traders’ Federation; F. C. Spratt, New Zealand Alliance; G. R. Ashbridge, New Zealand Educational Institute; Dr. J. W. Mcllraith, Education Department; Messrs J. Wood, Main Highways Board; J. H. Jerram, State Fire and Accident Office, the Commissioner of Transport, Transport Department. Mr Semple said the personnel had been drawn from many walks of life and he anticipated that the council would prove a valuable organisation in advising the Government on the problem of road safety. "No time will be lost in getting the council to work,” he said. “There is a lot to be done and I propose calling the first meeting about the middle of the month. As Minister of Transport I will preside at most of these meetings, whenever possible.”—(P.A.)
