SYDNEY SALES. SYDNEY, Thursday. At tne wool sales, 12,426 bales were offered, 8280 being sold at auction and 5714 privately. The demand for all better descriptions was well maintained, prices being firm, but the irregularity and weakness in regard to faulty wools was further accentuated, resulting in these being difficult of sale. Chief competition came from Yorkshire and Germany. Greasy Merino made to 204 d. AUSTRALIAN WOOL. JAPAN BUYING INDIRECTLY 1 SYDNEY, Thursday. • The “Daily Telegraph” says that wool sellers at Sydney consider there* are unmistakable signs that Japan is buying Australian wool indirectly. .One strong indication, they say, is that certain city operators who for many years have bought in a small way, have launched 1 out in an unprecedented fashion since the sales began on Monday. These buyers decline to say whether they have received commissions from Japan to buy by proxy.
