AUSTRALIAN RUGBY'MATCH.
The Mayor of .hfasterton, Mr r T. Jordan, informs us that when it was announced that the Australian Rugby, touring team was to play its match against the Wairarapa-Bush team Carterton, in common with many others, he expressed surprise that the fixture was made for Carterton, and made enquiries of the chairman of the management committee of the Wdirarapa Rugby Union, Mr G. D. Wilson, as to the reason for this, but he said he was unable to help me, as his Union had not been consulted on the matter. Mr Jordan continued: “Accordingly. I wrote to. the secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union on 31st July last, asking if he would let me know the reason. Receiving no reply to my letter I wrote again some three weeks later, and up to the prejfat have received no reply. As the team is no longer in our midst] and as the matter is of some public interest, I should be glad if you would be. good enough to publish the In the meantime, I make no comment on the attitude of the New Zealand Rugby Union.’” Copies of the letters referred to above follow: — Masterton, 31st July. Mr A. E. Neilson, Secretary, New Zealand Rugby Union, Wellington.
