MR S. FREEMAN

SERVICES RECOGNISED.

YOUNG FARMERS-’ GIFT.

In recognition of his sterling work in the Wairarapa, Mr S. Freeman, until lately Fields Instructor to the Department of Agriculture, and now Dominion Organising Secretary of the Young Farmers’ Club movement, was presented yesterday by the Wairarapa executive of the Young Fanners’ organisation with a travelling rug. The presentation was made by Sir William Perry. Making the presentation, Sir William Perry said it gave him great pleasure to present a small memento to Mr Freeman. In doing so, he regretted that Mr Freeman was severing his connection with the Wairarapa, as ho'TiA^^ce 1 ! directly concerned with, the setting up and development of clubs in the district, and the success of the movement was very largely due to his efforts. His work among the farming community was very valuable, particularly in connection with ensilage. .Mr Freeman’s instruction in the making of ensilage had been very successful, and ensilage was now made in various parts of the Wairarapa where formerly it was seldom seen. His work in connection with seeds was also outstanding, and he had been connected with the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs. Taken all round, said Sir William, the Wairarapa owed a debt of gratitude to Mr Freeman, whose undoubtedly excellent work and energy had fitted him for a better position. Sir William Perry wished Mr Freeman every success and good fortune in the future. In expressing his thanks, Mr Freeman said he doubte'd whether he deserved all the eulogistic remarks made about him. He owed a great debt to the executive of the Young Farmers’ Clubs, and wished his successor, Mr Lamont, every success.
