INJURED PILOT

COURT OF INQUIRY.

LONDON, Tuesday. A court of inquiry consisting of a Royal Air Force officer and Air Ministry officials, will sit to-morrow, at North Weald Aerodrome to investigate the injuries to Flight Lieutenant Menzies, which the “Daily Mail” says are inconsistent with a fall from a window. His face is badly battered, but there is only a slight bruise on. the head. He. was found lying face downward on the ground 40 feet below a dormitory window, and apparently had lain unconscious for six hours. A Royal Air Force officer is remaining at the bedside to take a statement when Mr Menzies regains consciousness. The Flight-Lieutenant Menzies to whom the above cable refers is apparently the one who is well known in New Zealand. He is the son of a Sydney doctor, and made the first solo crossing of the Tasman Sea on 7th January, 1930, in the Avro Avian “Southern Cross Junior” that Kingsford Smith had flown to Australia in 104 days, breaking Hinkler’s record. A SLEEP WALKER. (Received Wednesday, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Captain F. W. Follett says that on two occasions when he shared a room with the aviator, Guy Menzies, lie was awakened in the middle of the night to find Menzies sleep-walking, and suggests that Menzies was walking in his sleep when he fell from the dormitory window at the North Weald aerodrome. CONDITION IMPROVED.

(Received Wednesday, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Tuesday. Guy Menzies’ condition has slightly improved.

Flight-Lieutenant G. L. Menzies, an R.A.F. officer from Sydney, was found unconscious under a dormitory window at North Weald air field, Epping, his pyjamas being stained with blood.
