GUN DOG TRIALS
NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. MASTERTON SUCCESSES. Several Wairarapa gun dogs took part in the North Island championship trials held by the Hutt Valley Kennel Club on Saturday. Very keen interest was taken in the trials, owing to- the appearance of Captain Wragg, a brown Retriever dog, owned by Mr Crooks, of Christchurch. This dog, some two weeks ago, won the New Zealand championship at Christchurch. Keen competition was witnessed in the water trial, the judge (Mr Seeker), of Christchurch, being unable to separate Mr Crooks’ Captain Wragg and Mr R. V. Mason’s Labrador Retriever, Silky Sue, and Mr Moroney’s Labrador Retriever dog, Spring. In the run-off the Judge called the three dogs to the mark at the same time, Captain Wragg eventually being declared the winner with Silky Sue second and Spring third. The following are the results of events in which Wairarapa dogs were placed : North Island championship: Mr Crook’s (Christchurch) Brown Retriever dog, Captain Wragg, 1; Mr R. V.
