SITTING AT MASTERTON.

Before Mr H. P. LaAvry, S.M., at the S.M. Court this morning, the folloAving cases Avere dealt Avith: —

William Henry SnoAvsill was fined 5s and 10s costs for having permitted a chimney to catch fire, as occupier of a house situated at 2 Queen Alexander Street, on 6th August. For a similar offence at 18 Cole Street on 10th August, Walter Stanley FlaAvs was fined 5s and 10s. A fine, of the same amount Avas imposed on Cecil Beaumont Cox for a similar offence at Crayne Street on Ist August. For not being holders of current drivers’ licenses, George Lindsay James Avas fined 10s and 10s, and Guido Eric McLachlin 10s and 12s.

On a charge of having ridden a motor cycle without lights at Opalci, Guido Eric McLachlin Avas fined 10s and 12s costs.

A fine of £1 and 10s was imposed on Ronald W. Fellingham for having carried a pillion rider on a motor cycle at Opaki without adequate foot-rests for such passenger. On a charge of having used a motor vehicle Avithout having number plates affixed, Ronald W. Fellingham was fined £l and 10s costs.

Thomas O’Cononr Avas fined 30s and 10s for having operated a heavy motor vehicle carrying a greater load than it was licensed to carry.

On charges of having sold smoking requisites, and having failed to notify the Inspector of Factories that such goods Avere being sold, the folloAving were convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10s: —Wong Nam, Elizabeth Jane Clarke, Eileen Purchase and Phyllis Summers, George Wong, Herbert Harold Hills.

Elizabeth Jane Clarke, Eileen Purchase and Phyllis Summers, George Wong and Herbert Harold Hills Avere each fined 10s and 10s costs, as occupiers of shops in Avliich smoking requisites Avere sold and having failed to close their shops as required by Section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927.
