RAIL CAR TRIALS

THREE CARS TO PARTICIPATE. TRIP THROUGH WAIRARAPA. A trial run of the three rail cars recently completed for the Wairarapa service will be made to-morrow from Wellington, via the Rimutakas, to Woodville. It is expected that the regular service will start in a fortnight. The General Manager of Railways, Mr G. 11. Mackley, has invited leading citizens of the various centres in the Wairarapa to a trial run to-morrow of the three Wairarapa type rail cars, of wljich the third has just been completed. Thq first of these, the Maaliunui, will take representatives from Upper Ilutt and Masterton, the second-, the Mahuhu, will have Featherston, Martinborough and Carterton contingents, and the third, the Mamari, will convey Greytown, Mauriceville, Eketaliuna and Paliiatua representatives. The Mayors in the various Wairarapa centres are making arrangements for a

limited number of citizens to accompany them, and there will also be the chairmen of the principal local bodies and representatives of the Press. From the responses already to hand, it is expected that each of the cars will have, a full quota. A total of 150 people will be taken to Woodvillc and back. The Maaliunui will leave Wellington at 8.40 a.m., the Mahuhu at 8.55 a.m., and the. Mamari at 9.10 a.m., and they are timed to arrive at Woodville at noon, 12.17 p.m., and 12.36 pan., respectively. The Maahunui will stop only. at Upper Hutt and Masterton (leaving here at 10.49 a.m.), the Mahuhu at Featherston, Carterton and Masterton, and the Mamari at Carterton, Masterton, Mauriceville, Eketaliuna and Paliiatua. On the return trip the cars will leave Woodville as under:—Maahunui, 12 37 p.m.; Mahuhu, 12.52 p.m., and Mamari 1.7 p.m., and they will arrive in Wellington at 3.53, 4.9 and 4.26 p.m., respectively. The trials are intended to show these new cars running under actual working conditions, and will be the last of the official trials before the cars go into regular service in about a fortnight.
