MOTORIST SENT TO GAOL

NEGLIGENT DRIVING. ECHO OF FATALITY. NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. Found guilty of negligent driving, causing death, Samuel Edward Hawke was sentenced in the Supreme Court this morning to one year with hard labour, and his driving license was cancelled for ten years. His Honour said he thought that two years would have been a fitting sentence, but he had halved it in view of the jury’s strong recommendation for leniency. (P.A.)
