WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
ALFREDTON MEETING-. Tliere was a very good attendance and many visitors were present at the birthday meeting of the Alfredton W.I: It was decided to hold the Institute dance on 20th August, and the annual flower show in the. autumn. The president (Mrs G. Napier), who was a delegate to the Council meeting in Dunedin, gave an interesting talk on tlio business transacted at the meeting. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs George for making the birthday cake, and to Mrs Dickens for icing it. The president proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Wallis for making the Institute banner, the motion being carried. . . Mrs J. Parsonson proposed, and Mrs Didsbury seconded, the election of Miss M. Clarkson as a new member. —Carried. \ ■ j A musical trio was given by Mesdames White, Bicknell and J. Hartley, and Avas much appreciated. Mrs Rolls, on.,behalf of the Institute, presented Mrs White and Miss Grant each with a small present, in appreciation of their good services in connection A\ T ith the folk dancing and glee singing, in which. .the Alfredton W.I. came first and third respectively, at the drama festival/held, in Pahiatua. The competition of a hand-made pillow case AAms Avon by Mrs McLean, Avith Mrs Wallis second and Mrs G. Napier third. „ The coffeg. sponge *;- , j&mpetition Avas -Avon by Miss S. NapierTlvith'Mrs Wallis second and Mrs Didsbury third. '■ The hostesses Avere Mesdames Parsonson, Clarkson, Loav, and Miss R. Godinagh and Miss R. Smith. KAITUNA-FERNREDGE. The Kaituna-Pernridge Women’s Institute celebrated its third birthday on Friday, there being a large attendance of members, including many visitors 1 from other institutes. Shoulder sprays Avere presented to the ladies avlio represented their respective institutes by the president, Mrs, Heir. The hall AA*as prettily decorated Avith flowers as also Avas the table on which stood the beautiful birthday cake iced in the shape of a basket of floAvers, the work of Mrs J. Shaw. The meeting took the form of a social afternoon and the members were indebted to Mrs H. M. Morton for a musical competition Avlxich A\’as Avon by Mrs, Gaynor. Mrs Fieldhouse gave much pleasure Avith her,.musical items.. Miss Douglas and Mrs Jennings gave amusing and interesting recitations which Avere greatly enjoyed by all. During the afternoon tAvo competitions Avere held, the Avinners being Mesdgpies Morton and Adams. "The point prizes, for the year were as folloAv: —Senior A, Mesdames Taylforth, Donald and W. Pringle; juniors’, L. ShaAV, N. Birch and L. Pain. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the members and the cake was cut by Mrs Stempa. " It Avas announced that the junior members Avould hold a dance on 12th August.
