LARGE SUM DISTRIBUTED,
WELLINGTON, This Day
• The distribution of £16,000 to charitable and educational institutions and objects in the Wellington provincial district w r as authorised to-day at the annual meeting of the Macartliy Trust. This is the largest sum distributed since its commencement.
The total distribution now exceeds £229,000. The chief amounts are: £1385 to the Mayor’s Metropolitan Relief Committee, Wellington, £725 to St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Upper Hutt, £9OO to the Wellington City Mission, £4OO to the Wellington Boys’ Institute and S.A. Rhodes Home for Boys, £475 to St. Mary’s Guild, Karori, £350 to St. Joseph ’s Relief Depot and Creche, Wellington, £SOO to St. Thomas’s Boys’ School, Nainai, £475 to,,St. Vincent de Paul Society; Wellington, £360 to the Free Kindergarten Association, Wellington, £725 to the Home of Compassion, Island Bay, £425 to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, £450 to the Salvation Army Men’s Shelter and Samaritan Home, Buckle Street, 'Wellington.
Numerous other bodies benefit in amounts from £250 downwards, including £IBO to the Central Relief Committee, Palmerston North, £165 to the Convent of Mercy, Palmerston North, £lls to the Plunket Society, Wanganui, £llO to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Wanganui. —(P.A.)
