WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT OPAKI.

The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held on Thursday last and was well attended.. As usual it took place at the residence of the president, Mrs Wingate, who was in the chair. The roll call, “A Superstition That Influences Me,” was well responded to, some of the answers being most amusing. The roll call for the next meeting is ‘A Scotch Joke.” Two competitions were held, the first, “Wool Winding,” being won by. Mrs Beetham and Mrs Rayner, and the second “Advertisement Guessing,” being won by Mrs Weston. The monthly competition was “Paper Maohe Work. ’ ’ Mrs Wingate took both first and second prizes with JjKoll and a small tray. Next month’s; competition will be Scotch oat-cakes and Scotch shortbread.

During the, afternoon members were entertained by Mrs Logan, who sang. “I Did Not- Know,” and by Mrs Jaine and Miss G. Miller, who gave elocutionary items. It was decided to hold a dance in Mr Cooper’s barn on Thursday, 27th August, in aid of Institute funds. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Adcock, Beetham and Bourke.
